Show me the money

I do not find this story surprising at all. This is not the first time this has happened nor will this be the last. This is exactly the reason why I did not donate any money.

“We recently issued notices to various NGOs and social organisations, seeking a detailed report on how they spent or are spending the money collected for flood relief. But we have had little or no response,’’ said a senior officer associated with the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He blamed the officials for it.

As the article says, it is easy money and extremely easy at that and there will be no way to account for all of it.

The government is no saint either and the money that it said it will distribute will also have gone to pockets of people and not to the flood victims.

The reason for this to happen is simple: as a society and as individuals, we are not accountable.

UPDATE:

Another story about the misuse of the funds for flood relief.

A senior leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Deshpande was “grossly wrong” in diverting money from the relief fund towards salary of KPCC office-bearers as there was no provision to do so.
